About TTSCost

We were building a conversational AI product and needed to pick a text-to-speech provider. Simple question: how much will it cost? Turns out, getting a straight answer is surprisingly hard.

Every provider prices differently. Some charge per character on a pay-as-you-go basis. Others sell monthly subscriptions with character quotas you lose if you don't use them. Some bundle free tiers that expire after 12 months. Others offer permanent free allocations that reset monthly. The pricing pages are designed to make their own product look cheap, not to help you compare.

So we built TTSCost - a calculator that normalises every pricing model into a single, comparable cost for the exact text you need to convert. Paste your text, see the real numbers. No signup. No API key. No data sent to any server.

You paste text into the calculator. We count the characters and multiply by the published per-character rate for each provider and tier. For subscription-based providers like ElevenLabs, we calculate the effective cost per character based on the plan price divided by the monthly character quota.

Every price in the calculator comes directly from the provider's official API documentation or pricing page. We verify prices manually and note the verification date on every page. If a provider updates their pricing, we update our data within days.

Beyond cost, we track three additional metrics for every provider: voice quality (based on public benchmarks like the Artificial Analysis Speech Arena), latency (time-to-first-audio in milliseconds, from published specifications), and language support (total number of supported languages from official documentation).
